Numbers

1. Number from 1 to 19:

Zéro - 0
un - 1
deux - 2
trois - 3
quatre - 4
cinq - 5
six - 6
sept - 7
huit - 8 
neuf - 9

dix - 10
onze - 11
douze - 12
treize - 13
quatorze - 14
quinze - 15 
seize - 16
dix-sept - 17
dix-huit - 18
dix-neuf - 19

2. Number from 20 to 100:

+ For 20 to 60:

vingt - 20
trente - 30 
quarante - 40
cinquante - 50
soixante - 60 

+ For 21, 31, 41,... to 61:

We would say “twenty and one,” and so on.

For example:

vingt-et-un = 21
trente-et-un = 31
soixante-et-un = 61

+ For the rest of the numbers between 20 and 69:

Just add a dash between two numbers:

For example

vingt-deux = 22
trente-cinq = 35
cinquante-sept = 57
soixante-neuf = 69

+ Starting from 70:

We would say “sixty-ten”. Remember to still add “et” for 71.

For example

soixante-dix = 70
soixante-et-onze = 71
soixante-douze = 72
soixante-dix-huit = 78

+ Starting from 80 until 99: 

We would say “four twenties”

For example

quatre-vingt = 80
quatre-vingt-un = 81
quatre-vingt-deux = 82
quatre-vingt-dix = 90
quatre-vingt-onze = 91
quatre-vingt-dix-sept = 97

3. From 100 onwards:

cent = 100
deux cents = 200
mille = 1,000
dix mille = 10,000
cent mille = 100,000
un million = 1,000,000
deux millions = 2,000,000
un milliard = 1,000,000,000

181 = cent-quatre-vingt-un
634,985 = six-cents-trente-quatre-mille-neuf-cents-quatre-vingt-cinq
